If you want a delicious, sweet, and of course, HEALTHY snack for when you have the munchies in between meals, I would recommend that you stay away from the majority of products you find in your supermarkets. Even many of those products that claim to be healthy are filled with artificial sugars and empty calories. Instead, use real food and whip up your own quick snack so that you know exactly what ingredients are in it. People think they need to have a lot of time to prepare their own food, but you can create something simple in less than 20 minutes. Don't believe me? Check out this simple recipe for some delicious, HEALTHY, chocolate banana "cookies!"
Every day a new fitness product pops up claiming that all you need is 15 minutes a day to get that perfect body you desire, but does 15 minutes of exercise each day really help you get that perfect body and help you become a new, healthier you? Well, like everything else in the world, the answer is not so simple.
If you're looking to get muscle definition, lose those extra pounds, and get in the best shape of your life, 15 minutes of exercise a day is not going to cut it, especially if you are just sitting around at your desk or on your couch the rest of the day. I don't care what any of those promotional videos tell you, it just isn't going to happen, so you shouldn't hold your breath waiting for these great results.
How does 15 minutes of exercise affect you?
So here we are again! The time of year when the weather stays nice, get a few outdoor workouts in, some beach days, etc. You're on a roll; the sunshine motivating you to get out there and be active, but then it all gets ruined with those random days full of nothing but cold rain, the days where you just want to stay indoors, not leave your house, and keep dry. Well, most people will let that ruin their workout routine, but not YOU, at least I like to think so! Instead of letting the weather ruin your flow, you decide to get off the couch, and do a workout right on your living room floor. If you are wondering what kind of workout you could do, you came to the right place! Below you will find a great full body workout that will take you less than an hour to complete. It's a workout that will work every muscle in your body, including your heart! Most importantly, it's a workout you can do right in the comfort of your own home, provided you have a pair of dumbbells!
So blast that radio, start moving, and don't let the rainy weather get you down! Try this tough, FUN, full body workout and your body will love you for it! You will still get wet, but from SWEAT!
Now that the weather is getting nicer, what do you see every time you look at the media? Whether it's your favorite magazine, TV commercial, or just those annoying Facebook ads that are always popping up, I bet you're starting to see the same old ads telling you how to get that perfect beach body, telling you how to look good in that bikini. Want to get huge muscles in only 90 days? Follow this program! Want to stop those cravings and start losing fat today? It's as simple as taking this magical pill!
Now there are a few things wrong with everything the media shoves down your throat telling you how to be the best looking you. The first is all those dumb diet pills and stupid sprays “experts” researched and swear that they work wonders. Then you have all those stupid health fads that are endorsed by celebrities. [SPOILER ALERT: those celebrities have millions of dollars to spend on world class nutritionists and trainers, I highly doubt they are following a $50 program you can get at Walmart!) And then comes my favorite, soooo many different exercise programs that swear that they will get you in the best shape of your life, bigger muscles, sexy butt, all for the low low price of just 10 measly payments of $99!
I don't want to go into my philosophy and talk about how being healthy doesn't have to, and should not break your bank. What I want to talk about is the one thing every single one of these dumb ads have in common. Look at all those ads, whether it's a commercial, print, or some dumb Beach Body salesman. At the bottom in VERY small print, every single one of these ads says the same exact thing. “Results may vary. Exercise and a proper diet are necessary to achieve and maintain weight loss and muscle definition.” or some variation of that.
Anyone that knows me knows that I LOVE chocolate! Brownies, chocolate chip cookies, hot chocolate, chocolate milk—if it has chocolate in it, I'm going to eat (or drink) it! Although chocolate has several health benefits, those kind of go out the window when you're woofing down tons of unhealthy, although delicious, pastries and cakes. With all the added sugars and artificial flavors, chocolate loses the health benefits that we use so that we don't feel guilty when indulging in it.
So I set out on a long journey, searching high and low, of non-stop “google-ing!” I searched and searched for healthy brownie recipes and almost came up empty handed. Now before you tell me there are tons of healthy brownie recipes on the internet, let me tell you that I did have a few other requirements. Not only did they have to be healthy (by the way, even many of the “healthy” brownie recipes use added sugars), but I was looking for recipes that didn't include added sugars and any type of flour, baking powder, etc. I don't really have too much against flour or anything, but it was just something I don't have in my cabinets, and since I've eaten dog food more times than I've baked in my life, I really didn't feel like buying a big thing of flour just because I had a craving for brownies. It will just waste space in my cabinets.

This simple workout will help you burn calories, tone your body, and get you ready for those hot and sunny days at the beach! By mixing speed training and strength training, you will get an efficient workout that will rev up that metabolism, and help you burn calories even after you are done! So what are you waiting for? Beach season is right around the corner!
My last post talked about the importance of breakfast and how to eat a healthy, filling breakfast each morning. The last suggestion I made was to make overnight refrigerated oatmeal as a quick grab-and-go meal. Since I have not made it myself when I wrote the last post, I wasn't really too sure how it comes out, but ALAS! This past week I gave it a try and now I am hooked!
I made mine with steel-cut oats, and it was a little chewy which I enjoyed, but if you don't want it chewy, I read that using rolled oats is softer. Anyway, below you will find a simple way to make overnight refrigerated oatmeal and have a ready-to-go meal for you when you need to rush out the door in the morning.
As I said, this is the easiest thing in the world to make. All you gotta do is mix the following ingredients, put it in a jar (I used the peanut butter jar when there was peanut butter only on the edges that people usually throw away: resourceful, and you get a nice peanut butter flavor), put a lid on it, and put it in the fridge before you go to sleep!
Overnight Refrigerated Oatmeal Ingredients

You've heard it a million times. “Eat breakfast!” “Make sure you eat something in the morning.” “It's the most important meal of the day.” Healthy people eat breakfast.” and yada yada yada. We get it, BREAKFAST IS IMPORTANT! But every time you hear it, nobody ever tells you HOW to eat breakfast. For all those wise guys out there, yes, you put it in your mouth, chew, swallow (get your mind out of the gutter), but I'm talking about the foods you should be eating, and the foods you shouldn't be eating.
Most people grab a cup of coffee with a doughnut, a bagel, maybe a muffin, or pancakes if you have a bit more time in the morning. All of that is just carbs that are not going to keep you full. Instead they are just going to spike your sugar levels and cause you to feel hungry or get food cravings very quickly. Now if you're at work and didn't pack any nutritious snacks, you will probably end up binging on chips, candy, etc., which obviously isn't healthy for you.
Now don't get me wrong, I love carbs! As a runner, I need the energy to withstand those long runs, and I can't do it without a huge bowl of pasta! BUT, eating carbs alone is not good for you. Instead, try eating a lot more protein, fiber, and omega-3 fats in the morning with those carbs. YES I SAID FATS! This will help you feel more full until lunch, allowing you to avoid the urge to binge on unhealthy snacks!
Below are 5 healthy breakfast ideas that you can do to help you feel satisfied!
